How To Maximize Your Flash Drive's Performance

Applies to: Windows 7 and above, Mac OSX Snow Leopard and above

Most flash drives are formatted using FAT32. This is good if you want compatibility with older operating systems. If your environment has mostly newer computers, you can consider formatting your flash drive with the exFAT file system.

Advantages

  • Faster file transfers (if your thumbdrive is able)
  • Support for files over 4GB

Disadvantages

  • Not backwards compatible with Windows XP and Mac OS X pre-SnowLeopard
If you have more than one flash drive, you could leave one using FAT32 for the sake of compatibility.

It's been awhile...

...since my last post. I decided to make a comeback because Facebook seemed insufficient for some of the things I wanted to share with everyone. I've imported all my old postings but I haven't decided if I will publish them. Most of the postings from here on will be technical in nature, with a few personal milestones littered here and there.

Note: I was going to put up my old posts...but they seemed far too juvenile and embarrassing to post. I've kept them in archive. Suffice to say, the trip down memory lane was interesting.
